Day 25 NanoWriMo 2016

We are nearing the end of November and I’m still on track! Considering I lost a few days where I wasn’t able to write, I’m quite impressed with myself that I’m still on top of this and that if I do write for the last few remaining days, I’ll definitely finish with 50,000 words!

I’m working on book 3 now that book 2 is done. Well the rough draft for book 2 is done. While I was putting the outline into chapters and scenes, I realized book 3 might be a lot shorter and I was quite concerned with that. However, as I’ve been writing, I’ve already had to add in a few extra chapters because I’ve added a bunch of extra scenes that weren’t initially in the outline that helped to add more to the story. This I’m quite happy about. Once I’m done all the rough drafts (which I’m hoping to complete the rough draft for book 3 after NanoWriMo 2016 and before NanoWriMo 2017), I’ll go through and edit them all (I started on book 1 but had to stop and will likely get back to it once again). I’ve decided that if they are too short on their own once they’ve all been edited and ready to be sent off to publishers, then I will consider them all as one book and put them into three parts. I do realize that there are going to be a lot that I have to change and add in as I edit so there are tons of variables, but we’ll see!

Anyway, keep it going everyone! Only 5 more days!

Day 20 NanoWriMo 2016

All right book 2’s rough draft is officially done!

I just finished it with 30,300 words and I still only have 10 left to write 19,700 words which is a lot. I’m behind it’s true, but I’ll get caught up. I had a few days where I was just far too busy that I couldn’t get anything done and that is entirely my fault. I plan to reach the 50,000 word deadline though, and I will.

It feels good to have that done and now it’s just book 3 and the rough draft. The first 20,000 words should be good. I actually should find out if I spread out the outline for it or not. If not, I should do that today so when I write tomorrow I don’t want to worry about it.

Anyway, I’m writing what I’m thinking too much.

Keep it up everyone! You’ll get it done!

Day 11 NaNoWriMo 2016

I haven’t posted in a little while and I have been writing, however the last two days I didn’t.

The scenes that I did write came along quite well. There was part of one scene in particular that I actually discussed with a friend of mine who has, let’s go with “expertise”, in the topic. I gave him the scenario and he gave me what the best way to maneuver through a situation like that would be. I gave him time frames, restrictions or in some cases lack there of, and any other specific details that might be relevant. It ended up changing things a bit but made it a bit more believable than what I had down initially.

The next scene I have to write is going to be one that is….difficult. It’s a scene where everything is coming together, the scene that through out the whole story, the main character has been waiting for. It’s a final confrontation between the main character and this person who has yet to have a physical presence in the story. The character is merely a name, someone who influences and affects the lives of everyone in the story but does not have a physical form until now. It’s a conversation between these two characters that is so important and will change a lot of what has been perceived since the beginning of the first book. It’s because of all of these things that I’m posting this blog and not writing the scene. My frame of mind, despite knowing exactly what I need to do, is not right. I have to be able to write it properly. The voices need to be accurate and the dialogue is so important, the behaviour, the tone – all of it is so important in this scene that I need to make sure I give myself the time to write it. It’s probably going to be one of the longest chapters I write in Book 2 so giving myself a few hours to write it is crucial in my mind. My current plan is to either leave it for tomorrow or Sunday and get it done then. Even if it falters slightly here and there, well, that’s what editing is for. It’s just definitely not a scene I want to start and stop, start and stop.

Anyway, keep it up. We’re nearing the halfway mark and I know everyone will get there.

Day 6 NaNoWriMo 2016

I might have forgotten to update a couple days, but oh well. Here I am updating once more.

I have passed the 10,000 word mark and am nearly at 15,000 words. I have also started the rising action reaching the climax of the story so there is so much going on, and it is so tension filled, it’s actually quite fun to write. I added in a few extra things that I initially didn’t write into the outline – as I do tend to do quite often, usually details and descriptions and such – that I think fit in really well. They’re actually things that I’ve recently learned and I’m really excited that I was able to put them in. I might have to adjust the exact details but otherwise I think it’s pretty good.

Keep it going everyone! It’s day 6 and we still have lots of time!

Day 3 NaNoWriMo

So todays writing took a different turn. Today I did it while watching a show with my mom and after writing the rough draft of an assignment. Needless to say, I think my brain might be a bit fried and overworked today. Not to mention, the chapter is probably going to need a lot of editing (well the half chapter, it’s not done).

The chapter itself required more focus than I gave it. I still wrote over 3,000 words but I think I could have done better had I not sat myself in front of the TV and split my focus. I usually don’t write that way, normally my focus is entirely on the writing, but for some reason I did it this way…

Anyway, I wrote and I completed and it’s only a rough draft that will be heavily edited anyway! I know the rest will be better.

Keep it up everyone! We still have lots of time.

Day 2 NaNoWriMo 2016

It’s day 2 and I wrote!

Okay so I wrote another chunk today and it really does feel good to be back at it. A part of me thinks I might actually be able to stay on top of this for a change and that’s kind of a good feeling to have.

Outside of freezing and feeling sick (I really need to find a sweater), I think the rough draft is coming along. I do think that I’ll probably get about 25,000 of the words done by the time I finish the rough draft of book 2 and then the last half will be the first part of book 3. So that will be some serious progress if it pans out that way. I still have a fair bit to write of book 2 which also includes the massive climax, which will, of course, eat up a lot of the word count.

Anyway, I really need to warm up so I’m going to go work on that, and feeling better. Luckily I have the next two days off work so I can get class work done, writing done, recover from this sickness, and relax a bit.

Hope everyone else is doing well so far! Keep it up!

Nanowrimo 2016 Day 1

Well it’s the first day and I wrote!

So I continued book 2 as per my plan. I realized I needed a connecting part between two chapters so I wrote the part for that, and then completed another chapter. Between the two of them, I have a good start. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to write every day but I’m going to do the best I can to write nearly every day AND write more than the minimum word count.

Despite fighting off one nasty cold, it does feel pretty good to be writing again. I really have missed it. It also really felt good to get back into the mindset of my main character. She really does have an interesting voice and these two chapters were kind of complex in regards to her emotionally, so I think it was quite the way to enter into her mind again.

All in all I can say so far it’s a good start. Here’s to the rest of the month!

Writing, writing…

All right, so I’ve officially installed Scrivener and transferred over the files from one computer to the other. I can now write on the new one.

So I’ve got it all set up, all that’s left…well is to write. I think I’ll be waiting until the start of NanoWrimo before I actually start writing again, but at least I have things ready to go for whenever I am able to get back into it. I’m really looking forward to the challenge, even with working full time and taking this course. It’s going to be a lot to balance and handle, but I’m hoping, really hoping, I’ll be able to  reach the 50,000 word limit and be able to write every day.

Anyway, that’s all there is to say for now. Just wanted to put out a quick update.

Nanowrimo

Something I forgot to mention but thought I might as well, since I am participating again in Nanowrimo, I think it’d be worth it this time to put out my username for anyone who wants to add me as their buddy. I’m not too active on the site so there’s really no hard feelings if you don’t. I tend to update more often on here about writing and then just update my word count and everything on the site (and occasionally buy things off the store when the dollar isn’t insanely high). So if anyone is interested, they can add me kaveriarcher as their buddy. 🙂

My Long Standing Missing Status

Okay so that is really not indicative of anything. I think that title needs work but we’ll ignore and I’ll just plow through this post.

I have not been back at writing for some time though I do quite need to get back into it, especially in time for NanoWriMo. It’s fast approaching and I really want to do it. My problem is that I’m handling a full time job, a heavy course (both lecture, reading, test, and assignment based for that month), and then trying to fit in 50,000 words might be really tough. I am still going to try because well… I need it.

While it might not be my intention to get into too much detail of my personal life here, I do want to say that things since May have been relatively difficult for me, and over the last few weeks they seem to have reached a very difficult time. I am getting by and things will be looking up eventually. I have been working towards to maintaining the things I enjoy in life and trying to fit them in so that I can feel fulfilled in what I’m doing – to help balance out the aspects of my life I’m not happy with (my job for instance).

So in that respect, I am going to try to get back to updating this blog more often, which leads me to the next set of decent news. I have a new laptop! It’s not a new fancy thing that does a thousand new fancy things and is all high tech. Nope, it’s a refurbished laptop that does enough of what I need it to do. In other words, I can FINALLY update my dam website! So with that, I will actually be able to stay on top of things, I will actually be able to look at peoples posts and follow people and be able to update everyone when NanoWriMo starts!

Okay, so I think that’s where I’m going to end this. I just thought I’d give a quick update and let everyone know that the technological issue appears to be fixed and finally I can be present!
