I haven’t posted in a little while and I have been writing, however the last two days I didn’t.
The scenes that I did write came along quite well. There was part of one scene in particular that I actually discussed with a friend of mine who has, let’s go with “expertise”, in the topic. I gave him the scenario and he gave me what the best way to maneuver through a situation like that would be. I gave him time frames, restrictions or in some cases lack there of, and any other specific details that might be relevant. It ended up changing things a bit but made it a bit more believable than what I had down initially.
The next scene I have to write is going to be one that is….difficult. It’s a scene where everything is coming together, the scene that through out the whole story, the main character has been waiting for. It’s a final confrontation between the main character and this person who has yet to have a physical presence in the story. The character is merely a name, someone who influences and affects the lives of everyone in the story but does not have a physical form until now. It’s a conversation between these two characters that is so important and will change a lot of what has been perceived since the beginning of the first book. It’s because of all of these things that I’m posting this blog and not writing the scene. My frame of mind, despite knowing exactly what I need to do, is not right. I have to be able to write it properly. The voices need to be accurate and the dialogue is so important, the behaviour, the tone – all of it is so important in this scene that I need to make sure I give myself the time to write it. It’s probably going to be one of the longest chapters I write in Book 2 so giving myself a few hours to write it is crucial in my mind. My current plan is to either leave it for tomorrow or Sunday and get it done then. Even if it falters slightly here and there, well, that’s what editing is for. It’s just definitely not a scene I want to start and stop, start and stop.
Anyway, keep it up. We’re nearing the halfway mark and I know everyone will get there.
